There Is Only One Gender
The contemporary debate over pronouns assumes they are either expressions of biological sex or personal identity. Both views miss their traditional role. Pronouns are interpretive judgments made by speakers using incomplete information in a social world. The deeper issue is not gender, but freedom of conscience and the right to interpret.
